Cistern or Rain
Barrell Diverter contains no moving parts. As pictured, the water
diverts back down the pipe when the barrell is filled. The diverter is
connected to the barrell with 1.25" suction hose. When attached to a cistern, a
stand pipe should be used. The barrell makes an excellent emergency water
supply which is easy to set up. How does it work?, How much is diverted? The side fill system pictured was made by drilling a 1.5" hole near the top of the barrell (as high as you want the barrell to fill). The suction hose fitting was caulked and fastened with a ring lock nut on the inside and one on the outside. A bulkhead fitting can also be used. A cover or lid of some type for the barrel is important for keeping mosquitoes from breeding. I use the water for watering plants. One advantage to the device is that the barrell could be placed in a structure without fear of overflow. Most debris does not go into the barrell. Available for 3" pipe only (adaptors available for other pipe). |
